Why should I choose Hostopogo?
Let's be honest. There are plenty of web hosting companies out there, and trying to sort through them to find the right company for you can be a frustrating and even overwhelming experience. If you're going through that process and are comparison shopping, then by all means explore our website as part of your search. As you do so, there is one thing we'd like you to keep in mind, and it may not be what you expect to hear:

Hostopogo is profitable.

We have a long term vision as a web hosting company, and it is vital to the integrity of that vision that we remain debt free and profitable now and into the future. We could talk all day about bandwidth, uptime, support, data centres, server specs, features...
all of those things and more are equally important to the character and quality of service we provide our customers. In the end though, it is our stable profitable growth that is your asurance that Hostopogo and your website will still be here long after most of our competitors have come and gone.

We offer both Raid 1 and weekly off-site tape backups. Seperately, the weekly tape backups can restore any files that have been deleted or corrupted, up to the date of the last backup that was made. In the end though, it is the customer's responsibilty to ensure that they backup their own data.

How does the DNS (Domain Name Server) system work?
In order for a domain name to be available for viewing on the internet, it must be assigned to an IP (Internet Protocol) address first. IP addresses are a series of four numbers that are unique to each computer (server) that is a connection point to the internet. An example of an IP address would be the one for Yahoo: 66.94.230.37. Mahines on the internet can quickly find each other based on their IP addresses.

The DNS system is a huge global database that points domain names to specific IP addresses, called name servers. For example, when you type yahoo.com into your browser's address window, your browser accesses the DNS database and sees that yahoo.com is assigned to the the name server IP of 66.94.230.37. Your browser now knows where to find Yahoo and in an instant the Yahoo website appears on your screen. Think of it as the computing version of what we humans do when we look up someone's address in the phone book. And just like people, domain names can move from one name server / IP address to another.

How do I change my DNS information?
You need to log in to your account with the domain name registration company that you purchased your name through, and find an option for changing DNS. If you are purchasing a hosting package with us, then you will need to make the changes after you complete the order form and your payment transaction has been completed. You will be provided with Hostopogo's name server information on the order form and in a follow up email. If you run into difficulties trying to change your DNS please don't hesitate to contact us - although you may want to contact your registration company first.

If you are purchasing a domain with us at the time of your order, your new domain name will automatically be assigned to our name servers.

How long does it take for DNS changes to complete?
When an existing domain name's DNS information is changed, or a new domain name is first assigned to a name server, it usually takes 24 to 72 hours for the change to be recognized by the many systems world wide that access the DNS database. So even after the change has occured, you won't be able to access your domain name with your browser until your local ISP (Internet Service Provider) has updated their DNS database information.
